The Visibility page shows where your business ranks in Google Maps results across a geographic grid centered on your location.

How It Works

WisePilot uses DataForSEO to check your Google Maps ranking at 81 points (9x9 grid) spread across a 25-mile radius around your business. For each point, it records your position in the map pack (1-20) or marks you as not found. Scans run weekly for each tracked keyword via the gbp-visibility-scanner runner.

Reading the Heatmap

  • Green cells — You rank in positions 1-3 (top of map pack)
  • Yellow cells — You rank in positions 4-10 (visible but not dominant)
  • Red cells — You rank in positions 11-20 (low visibility)
  • Gray cells — Not found in the top 20 results at that location
The heatmap reveals geographic patterns — you might rank well near your business but poorly in outlying areas, or have strong visibility on one side of town but not the other.

Managing Keywords

You can track up to 5 keywords per website. Choose keywords that represent your core services.

Adding a Keyword

  1. Click Add Keyword
  2. Enter the search term (e.g., “plumber near me”, “emergency AC repair”)
  3. The first scan runs within a week

Removing a Keyword

Click the remove button next to any keyword. Historical scan data is retained.

Week-over-Week Comparison

Select two scan dates to compare ranking changes. Cells show directional arrows indicating improvement or decline at each grid point.

Cost

Visibility scanning uses the DataForSEO API:
  • Each scan checks 81 grid points for 1 keyword
  • Cost: approximately $0.20 per scan
  • With 5 keywords on weekly scans: approximately $4/month per location
Visibility grid requires DataForSEO credentials to be configured. If the grid shows “Not configured”, ask your administrator to set up DataForSEO in the environment settings.

Why DataForSEO Instead of Google

Google’s APIs do not provide a compliant way to check map pack rankings at arbitrary locations. DataForSEO handles this through their own infrastructure, providing accurate and TOS-compliant local rank data.
